Eviro-Friendly Talking Toilets

The Famous Japanese politeness extends into the bathroom with Otohime おとひめ “Sound Princess”. Otohime is a device install just behind the toilet user which, when activated covers any potential embarrassing sound with a sound of flushing water. This device was created in the 1980s to counter the urge for women to constantly flush the toilet and subsequently use large amounts of water. It is estimated that this sound saves up to 20 liters of water per visit.

While fairly common in bathrooms now, Otohime still fetches a high price and evident by well known bathroom fixtures company, TOTO’s website. Shockingly, the male bathroom equivalent, Otoouji “Sound Prince” is virtually non-existent. Guess guys just don’t care!
